I’ve spent the vast majority of my career working with children and young people with SEND. Improving outcomes for this group is paramount to everything I do in my work.

As a qualified teacher, I moved from leading special schools to working for Ofsted as an HMI. I became Ofsted’s Specialist Adviser for SEND, a national role within the central policy team. My most recent work included contributing to the updated schools inspection handbook and the new Area SEND framework, alongside developing training for inspectors.

While I will remain inspecting as an Ofsted inspector, I have very recently left my role as an HMI to focus on helping to improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND. Now, working as an independent consultant, I am able to work alongside leaders and staff to analyse, understand and improve provision and outcomes in a variety of settings - schools (special, mainstream, maintained, trust and independent), local authorities and academy trusts.
